The Promised Savior
In the midst of The Fall, we see God’s plan for Grace
Genesis 3:14–15 The LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
— Genesis 3:14-15 (ESV)
-
The serpent is cursed above all other creatures
- Functionally: it will crawl on its belly, eating dust
- Relationally: there will be enmity between the woman and the serpent and their offspring
-
At the very lowest point in the history of mankind, God has a plan to bless us!
-
Sin always causes death. How do we see that here? (look at verse 21)
-
Satan is alive and active; he comes whispering lies, seeking to destroy. Adam and Eve willingly listened and obeyed him.
- Do we do any differently when we sin?
- In that moment, we are choosing to obey Satan over God
-
Notice that it is the woman’s offspring; Adam is not mentioned. Why is that?
Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.
— Matthew 1:18 (ESV)
Questions for Reflection
- As you are going, make disciples.
- Who do you listen to?
- Who gets your obedience?
